How it works
The science behind DAF
Frequently asked
Do I need AirPods to use Speech Synk?
+
Any Bluetooth earbuds or wired headphones work. Speech Synk requires headphones to safely run the audio loop — without them, the microphone would feed back into the speaker. AirPods Pro work especially well.
Does Speech Synk replace working with a speech therapist?
+
No. Speech Synk is a wellness and practice tool. It is not a medical device and does not replace working with a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP). If you have an SLP, Speech Synk is a great between-session companion.
What is Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF)?
+
DAF plays your own voice back to you with a small delay (typically 10–200ms). For many people who stutter, this acoustic shift dramatically reduces disfluency in the moment. The technique has been studied for decades.
Is my voice data private?
+
Yes. Sensitive audio is encrypted on-device using iOS Data Protection. Personal identifiers are stripped before any AI processing, and we never sell your data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my account?
+
Open Speech Synk → Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, sessions, and any associated data.
Why does the app ask for microphone access?
+
Speech Synk needs to record what you're saying in order to play it back to you with a delay (DAF) and to generate post-session insights. Microphone audio never leaves your device unless you explicitly opt in to a feature that requires it.
Which devices are supported?
+
Speech Synk requires iOS 16 or later. iPhone is fully supported; iPad support is coming.
